MEET MARIYA

Mariya arrived to New York with her 9 month old daughter from Lviv, Ukraine.

Mariya is a composer, a teacher, previously worked at the department of composition at the Lviv Academy of Music, an author of the music for the opera Ukraine-Terra Incognita. Her husband is an officer, serving on the front line, since the very beginning of the war.  The above photo shows the family together before leaving to serve the country. . Maria has been in New York since the beginning of August on the Fulbright program with her daughter for 9 months and is scheduled to be in the country till May 2023. 

“I worry about my husband every night, he is on the front line. With taking care of a child and working on music, there is very little internal resource left to look for housing, and now this is a fundamental issue that I have to solve as soon as possible. I know that it is very important for us to live in a small space, but still separately.”

Ukrainian Habitat Fund has successfully found a new home for Mariya and Olivia, providing them with a safe place to live and home essentials to start their new lives in New York.
